While other artists sing about the usual stuff: sex, guns, rotten boyfriends, Neal Fox tackles more cerebral subjects such as racism, (“The Good in Us”), George Floyd (“Truth Matters”), and human rights (“You Have the Right”). Often compared to George Carlin, he uses satire and a dose of humor to deliver his messages, as well as uplifting and moving melodies.

Fox says: “If you’re not concerned about freedom or anything other than ‘getting some,’ I’m probably below your radar. It might not make me a millionaire, but I’ve got to stand for something or I’m wasting my life.”

Old enough to be a great-grandfather, Fox celebrates his fifth decade in the music business. Playing keyboards, guitar, and synths, his sound varies from prog rock to singer-songwriter, with jazz, electronica, orchestral, and pop elements.

He wrote his first song at age 14, and by the 1970s, Fox was signed to Polydor’s Event label. Following that were contracts with RCA and Columbia Records, with charted singles and a Top Ten Dance Club Hit.

Then someone asked him to write a “jingle” for an advertising campaign. That became a steady source of income, leading to a partnership in Patterson, Walz & Fox Music Productions. He composed and produced music for everything from Coke to Sea World, TV promos for all the major networks, themes for the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather, and, Eye to Eye with Connie Chung, and co-scores for the The Killer Tomatoes franchise.

He has self-released over a dozen CDs on his label, Wire Duck Records, and created several award-winning music videos, and short films. His 2015 feature- length “documentary-in-music,” The Conspiracy Project, received multiple film festival awards, including Best Score. He wrote, produced, and performed everything himself. TCP was unique in that it had zero narration. All of the data was presented through its seventeen songs—along with quotes, Neal’s performances, art, and animation.

In 2020, his highly praised, UNHINGED, album netted him the best reviews of his life, proving that his music is still relevant. And in 2023, his song, “A Message From Shanghai” received two 5-star reviews and a feature in Recording Magazine.

He is currently focusing all of his attention on creating an animated film (solo venture), titled, Dr. Frick’s Home for the Mentally Unique. It’s based on his

original musical, Meat Street, which was performed in an Orlando workshop, literally days before 9/ll. Fox re-worked the stage musical specifically for the film. Since it is a solo venture and will not be done until at least the end of 2025, he just released the fully narrated audiobook of Dr. Frick’s Home for the Mentally Unique on Amazon/Audible, the kindle version of the script on Amazon, and the first part of the film (which introduces the characters) on YouTube.

And he’s already thinking about his next projects: another musical audiobook and album. To follow him, visit his web site: TheRealNealFox.com, watch his videos at YouTube.com/nealfox, or support him at patreon.com/nealfox.
